Collapsed Drain Repair
A collapsed drain doesn't fix itself, and it rarely stays a small problem for long. Once a section of pipe has caved in, waste has nowhere to go, pressure builds up behind the blockage, and the risk of flooding, subsidence, or damage to the ground above increases fast.
ICE Drainage provides fast, proper collapsed drain repair for homeowners, businesses, and facilities teams across the UK. We assess the damage, agree the right fix, and get it done properly, using no-dig repair options wherever the collapse allows for it.
What causes a drain to collapse?
A collapse usually happens gradually before it happens suddenly. Common causes include:
- Old or deteriorated pipework, especially older clay or unlined pipes
- Root ingress that's weakened the pipe over time before it finally gives way
- Ground movement or nearby excavation work disturbing the pipe's support
- Heavy loads above the drain, such as vehicles or new construction, that it wasn't designed for
- Corrosion or structural failure at a joint or weak point in the line
Signs you might have a collapsed drain
- A sudden, severe blockage that won't clear with normal unblocking
- Sinking or soft ground, or a visible dip, above the drain's route
- Sewage or foul water surfacing in the garden, yard, or a manhole
- A strong, persistent smell with no obvious cause
- Slow or completely stopped drainage across multiple fixtures at once
If you're seeing any of these, it's worth getting the line checked before the damage spreads further along the run.
Our collapsed drain repair process
1) CCTV survey
We send a camera through the affected line to confirm the exact location, length, and severity of the collapse, and to check the condition of the pipe either side of it.
2) Assessing the right fix
Not every collapse needs full excavation. Depending on what the survey shows, we'll recommend the most appropriate option, whether that's a no-dig lining repair, a localised excavation and patch repair, or full replacement of the collapsed section.
3) Carrying out the repair
We complete the agreed repair using the right method and materials for the pipe and the damage, working to restore the correct diameter and a smooth, unobstructed line.
4) Testing and reinstatement
Once the repair is in, we confirm the line is flowing correctly and reinstate any excavated area, whether that's ground, paving, or a driveway.
No-dig repair where it's possible
Where the pipe and access allow, we favour no-dig methods such as lining over full excavation. It's faster, less disruptive to your property, and avoids the cost of digging up and reinstating driveways, gardens, or floors. We'll always tell you honestly if a collapse is too severe for lining and needs traditional excavation instead.
