What Do We Mean by “Effluent Quality”?
Effluent is the treated wastewater leaving your septic tank or treatment plant.
When a system is working properly, effluent should discharge without obvious signs of failure. When it isn’t, you may notice:
- Strong or persistent foul odours near the discharge point
- Discoloured or cloudy water
- Visible solids, scum, or grease
- Ponding or soggy ground around the drainage field / soakaway
- Increased flies or nuisance issues
- Alarms, rising levels, or frequent pump-outs
