What is flood water removal?

Flood water removal is the safe extraction of standing or contaminated water from buildings, basements, car parks, service yards, plant rooms, lift shafts, and drainage systems. The goal is simple: get the water out fast, make the area safe again, stop it happening again where possible, and dispose of everything correctly.

It's often just the first step. Depending on what caused the flood, you might also need drain clearance, silt removal, interceptor cleaning, or drying and restoration work afterwards.

What causes flooding on commercial sites?

Flooding is rarely random. Most of the time, there's a drainage or maintenance problem behind it.

Common causes include blocked drains from silt, debris, or grease build-up, damaged or collapsed pipework, surface water systems that can't cope with heavy rain, sewers backing up, blocked gullies and catch pits, full attenuation tanks, pump failures in basements or pumping stations, and burst pipes or plumbing failures.

Our flood water removal process

1) Assessment and safety checks

We check the flooded area, look at access, and flag any immediate hazards, things like electrical risk, contamination (foul water, oil, chemicals), confined spaces, or vehicle and pedestrian safety. Where needed, we work with your team to isolate the area first.

2) Water extraction

Depending on how much water there is and where it is, we use jet-vac tankers for fast, high-volume removal, submersible pumps for tighter or restricted spaces, and controlled discharge where it's allowed. Our priority is getting the water out fast while keeping full control of where it goes.

3) Drainage clearance and finding the cause

If the flood is linked to a blocked or restricted drain, we can jet it clear, empty gullies and catch pits, remove sludge and silt from chambers, clean interceptors, and run a CCTV survey to find out what's really going on. If we find a structural problem, like a collapse or root damage, we'll tell you and explain what needs to happen next.

4) Wash-down and hygiene

If the water was contaminated, we'll advise on the right cleaning and hygiene steps. Flood water can carry silt, sewage, oil, and bacteria, so getting this right matters.

5) Waste transport and disposal documentation

Flood water and any waste that comes with it has to be handled properly. We provide waste transfer documentation where it applies, so you're covered for your Duty of Care.
