Robotic Cutting

Sometimes a drain doesn't have a crack or a collapse, it has something in the way. A protruding connection, an intruding lateral pipe, or a snag point catching debris can restrict flow just as effectively as a structural defect, without any digging needed to fix it.

ICE Drainage carries out robotic cutting for homeowners, businesses, and facilities teams across the UK. It's a no-dig method for reopening connections and removing intrusions from inside the pipe, using remote-controlled equipment operated from the surface.

What robotic cutting is used for

Robotic cutting is most commonly used to deal with:

  • Protruding connections or laterals that intrude into the main pipe and catch debris
  • Poorly cut or incorrectly finished tie-ins from a previous connection
  • Snag points that repeatedly catch wipes, roots, or other debris
  • Obstructions that a survey has identified as the specific cause of recurring blockages

A remote-controlled cutting head is inserted into the pipe through an access point, then used to trim back the obstruction and smooth the flow path, all without excavation.

Our robotic cutting process

1) Confirming the obstruction

We use CCTV to locate the exact position and nature of the intrusion, and to plan the right cutting approach.

2) Access and set-up

We identify a suitable access point and set up the equipment for a controlled, remote operation.

3) Cutting and clearing

We operate the cutting head from the surface to remove the obstruction and reopen the connection cleanly, without damaging the surrounding pipe.

4) Verifying the repair

We confirm the line is clear and flowing correctly, checking that the fix has resolved the underlying restriction.

Why robotic cutting over excavation

Removing an intruding connection or snag point by hand usually means digging up the pipe. Robotic cutting reaches the exact point of the problem from within the pipe itself, so there's no excavation, no reinstatement, and far less disruption to your property.

Book robotic cutting

If a survey has identified an intruding connection or obstruction in your drain, ICE Drainage can help.

Contact ICE Drainage to discuss the problem. We'll confirm the cause and clear it using robotic cutting, without the need to dig up your property.
