What is an interceptor?

An interceptor, also called an oil interceptor, petrol interceptor, or oil separator, is built to separate hydrocarbons from surface water run-off before it reaches the sewer or the environment. You'll find them anywhere vehicles, plant, or fuel storage are on site.

Our interceptor cleaning process

1) Site assessment and access planning

We confirm access points, the type of interceptor, and where the tanker needs to go. We also check for any site-specific rules, including traffic management and environmental requirements.

2) Safe set-up and isolation

We put the right controls in place to protect pedestrians, vehicles, and the working area. Where needed, we work with your site team to isolate the interceptor and manage flow during the clean.

3) Jet-vac extraction

Using jet-vac tankers, we remove surface oil and hydrocarbons, sludge and settled solids from the settlement chambers, and silt and debris that's eating into capacity. This gets the interceptor back to its full working volume and cuts the risk of waste carrying over downstream.

4) High-pressure wash-down and internal clean

We use high-pressure jetting to break up compacted deposits and wash down the inside of the unit, moving loosened material to the extraction point.

5) Condition checks and reporting

After cleaning, we check the condition of the interceptor and flag anything we find, like damaged baffles or coalescer units, structural defects in the chambers, damaged covers or frames, or signs of unusual contamination or excess inflow. If more investigation is needed, we can recommend a CCTV drain survey or targeted repair work.

6) Waste transport and disposal documentation

Interceptor waste is controlled waste and has to be transported and disposed of correctly. We provide waste transfer documentation where applicable, supporting your Duty of Care and internal compliance.
