Drain Joint Sealing Repairs

Pipe joints are one of the most common failure points in a drainage run. When a joint leaks or has pulled apart slightly, it lets groundwater in, lets waste out, and gives roots an easy way through the pipe wall. Sealing the joint properly stops all three, without needing to touch the rest of the pipe.

ICE Drainage carries out joint sealing repairs for homeowners, businesses, and facilities teams across the UK. We reseal leaking or displaced joints from within the pipe, restoring a watertight, root-proof connection.

What is joint sealing?

Every length of pipe in a drainage run is connected to the next by a joint. Over time, joints can leak, loosen, or shift slightly out of alignment, even when the pipe either side is otherwise in good condition. Joint sealing repairs the connection itself, using a localised technique that seals the joint from the inside rather than replacing the surrounding pipe.

This makes it a good option when the pipe itself is sound but a specific joint is letting water or roots in.

Signs a joint needs sealing

  • A CCTV survey has identified a leaking or slightly displaced joint
  • Groundwater infiltration at a specific point in the line, rather than along its full length
  • Roots entering at a single, repeatable location
  • A damp patch or area of soft ground above one particular spot on the drain's route
  • Minor, localised misalignment between two lengths of pipe

If a joint is only slightly out of alignment or leaking rather than badly displaced, sealing is often a quicker and less disruptive fix than the alternatives.

Our joint sealing process

1) Locating the joint

We use CCTV to confirm the exact position of the affected joint and check its condition before deciding on the right approach.

2) Preparing the joint

We clean the area around the joint and remove any debris, root material, or scale that could affect the seal.

3) Sealing the joint

We apply a sealing method suited to the pipe material, diameter, and the extent of the leak or displacement, creating a watertight, root-resistant connection.

4) Verifying the repair

We confirm the joint is properly sealed and the line is flowing correctly before finishing.

When sealing isn't enough

Joint sealing works well for leaking or slightly displaced joints, but not every joint problem can be fixed this way. If a joint has moved significantly, or the surrounding pipe shows other defects, we'll tell you honestly and recommend a more suitable repair, such as a localised lining repair or, in more serious cases, replacement of the affected section.

Book a drain joint sealing repair

If a survey has identified a leaking or displaced joint, or you suspect one is letting water or roots into your drain, ICE Drainage can help.

Contact ICE Drainage to discuss the problem. We'll confirm the joint's condition and reseal it properly, so it doesn't keep letting the problem back in.
