Cracked & Displaced Pipe Repairs

A cracked pipe or a joint that's pulled apart doesn't need to mean digging up the whole run. But left alone, it will let water and roots in, let waste out, and get worse over time until it does need a much bigger fix. Catching it early and repairing it properly is what stops that happening.

ICE Drainage repairs cracked and displaced drain pipes for homeowners, businesses, and facilities teams across the UK. We confirm the exact location and cause of the damage, then carry out a repair that stops the problem coming back.

What causes cracked or displaced pipes?

  • Ground movement settling or shifting the pipe out of alignment
  • Tree root pressure at a joint, gradually forcing it apart
  • Age and material fatigue, especially in older clay or unreinforced pipe
  • Nearby excavation or construction disturbing the ground around the drain
  • A heavy load above the pipe that it wasn't designed to bear

Signs of a cracked or displaced pipe

  • A CCTV survey has already identified a crack, fracture, or displaced joint
  • Recurring blockages at the same point in the line
  • Water pooling above the pipe's route, or noticeably damp ground
  • A gradual increase in root ingress at the same spot
  • Slow drainage that doesn't fully explain itself with a simple blockage

If a survey has already flagged the defect, this is usually the next step. If you haven't had one yet, we can carry out a CCTV survey first to confirm exactly what's wrong and where.

Our repair process

1) Confirming the defect

We use CCTV to pinpoint the exact location, type, and severity of the crack or displacement, and check the condition of the pipe around it.

2) Choosing the right repair method

Depending on the defect, this might be a localised lining repair, a patch repair at the specific point of damage, or replacement of a short section, without needing to excavate the whole run.

3) Carrying out the repair

We complete the repair using methods and materials suited to the pipe's material, diameter, and condition, restoring a smooth, unobstructed line.

4) Verifying the fix

We check the repaired section to confirm it's sound and flowing correctly before we finish up.

Why a proper repair matters

A cracked or displaced pipe that's only partially fixed, or just cleared and left, tends to fail again in the same spot. Repairing the actual defect, not just clearing what's built up around it, is what stops root ingress and water infiltration coming straight back.
